is for our 2 to 3 year olds....

THURSDAY 2.15pm - 3.00pm

This is a class which builds on the previous Starlets Babies class and aims to continue developing skills of balance and co-ordination. The children are still encouraged to use tambourines and teddy bears and do small steps, mime and songs in front of others to help build confidence. We will continue with the introduction of the first steps of ballet to include hopping and skipping, galloping and the first position of the feet and arms.  When the children reach 3 they are usually ready to join the next class and are independent enough to be left

Welcome to the new Autumn Term and, first, a quick reminder of this term’s key dates.

As you may be aware, our examination classes run for 12 weeks while all other classes are 10 weeks. Hence, the LAST day of term for 10 week classes will be Friday 1st December and for 12 week classes Wednesday 13th December.

Half term will be the TWO WEEKS from Sunday 15th to Sunday 29th October.

The date set aside for our  Annual  Prizegiving is Saturday 25th November at the Village Hall.  Unlike previous prizegivings, the event will be held in the evening and  in a different format. To bring a sense of occasion to the event it will be organised in an informal cabaret style for students and their families. To make the event more fun we are discarding the use of Chadsworth uniforms and suggesting a more relaxed approach – if students wish to dress-up that’s even better - more like a fashionable awards ceremony.

Could I please remind all cup winners from last year’s prizegiving that cups are now due to be returned and we would be grateful if you could bring these to your next lesson.

The Friday Project class are getting ready to hold auditions for DISNEY’s ALADDIN.  There are currently some spaces available in this class and if you would like to come along for a free trial lesson please contact the school office on 020 8398 8104.

This term sees our annual Christmas Show being held on Saturday 2 December in the morning at the Village Hall followed by our annual British Arts Awards Competition in the afternoon.

On Saturday 2 December we will be holding our competition show in the Village Hall as part of the nationwide British Arts Awards.

The British Arts Awards is an annual competition in dance, singing and drama. Preliminary  rounds are held on “home” territory, in our case at the Village Hall, with entries being judged by adjudicators from the British Arts.  Those entries gaining “honours” then go forward to a regional semi-final which, in our case, is usually held at the Secombe Theatre in Sutton.

At the semi-final stage, entries in each category gaining the highest marks from the judges go through to the national finals in London. Marks over 85 are awarded Merit Certificates. The highest merit marks in each section are then called to the London Finals.   Categories that may be entered include ballet, tap, song & dance, acrobatic, character or National dance, modern dance, song, drama or a more general category called “entertainment”. All these disciplines can be entered as solo or duet or group.  If you would like more details of the competition please contact the school office.

Congratulations to all the students who took their LAMDA and TRINITY examinations in July – we were delighted to receive some really good results.  Also congratulations to all those students who took their ISTD Tap and Modern Examinations in July – again a record number of good results.

Don’t forget, if you are looking for a class for your little ones why not come along and join Mrs Lacey on a Thursday afternoon from 2.15 – 3.00 (2 to 3 year olds) in the Claygate Village Hall.   Also, for slightly older children, we hold our Starlets Advanced Class with Mrs Lacey also on a Thursday from 4pm – 5pm.   KAOS Babes for our 4 to 7 year olds now have spaces on a Saturday.  We also have availability in our Musical Theatre classes for our 7 and overs.  Also continuing this term will be our Junior Drama on a Wednesday from 3.45pm – 4.30pm for 4 to 7 year olds with Mrs Hardie.  This class will also look at the introductory examinations with LAMDA.  Our Acrobatics class on a Thursday from 5pm – 6pm will be continuing this term .

If your son or daughter would like to come along for a free trial to any of our classes, which they don’t already attend, then please feel free to speak to one of the teachers or to the school office.

Please can I ask that all parents double check their children’s dancewear uniforms? As you probably know, we run our own dancewear shop on a Saturday morning where you can purchase most of the items that are needed.  If you are unable to get to the shop please speak to the school office.  If anyone is interested in helping out in the shop on a Saturday morning, even for just an hour, please get in touch with us.  We are also looking for parents to join us on the Society Committee – again please speak to either myself or Mrs Lacey.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of the term with us and please feel free to contact the school office if you have any questions or queries.
